UPDATED, August 20th, 2011:
NEXT MEETING WILL BE IN JANUARY!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
SPEAKER: Charles Jinright , your district 9 councilman, was the guest
speaker at the meeting. He thanked everyone for being involved in the
neighborhood and again said it was a safe neighborhood.
-RECYCLE - will start back in 12 to 18 months. This recycling, per Charles,
will not require orange bags. You will throw all trash into your regular
garbage can and the city will pick up as usual. They will separate all of the
trash at a local site and all of the garbage will be recycled. Our city will be
totally Green when it comes to trash.
SOCCER FIELDS - The new soccer fields will bring money into the city. The
city has already signed a contract with The National Soccer Teams to
compete in Montgomery. After the fields are done, Minnie Brown Road
should be paved.
NEW TRAFFIC LIGHT - There will be a new traffic light located at Taylor Road
and Winton Blount Blvd. This will hopefully slow traffic down on Taylor
Road.
TURN LANE INTO COPPERFIELD - One neighbor ask about having a turn
lane when going towards Atlanta Hwy. turning into Copperfield. He will look
into this situation. Also, the Montgomery Transit System stops there to pick
up people and it was brought to his attention how dangerous it is for this
bus to stop when drivers are going over the speed limit down the hill. A turn
lane would take care of two problems. He will look into this problem.
MADISON AVENUE - If you have not driven downtown and looked at the new
and improved Madison Avenue, it is worth the drive. There are trees, new
paved road and sidewalks. Crampton Bowl is bringing many new teams to
Montgomery and hopefully the High School Playoffs. Not sure if the Blue
Gray game can be brought back.
MAYOR - Mr. Jinright stated that Todd Strange has been a great mayor and
has improved many things for Montgomery. He also has helped downtown
to bring in more tourist and more revenue for the city.
JERRY WHITEHOUSE - Our second guest speaker - Jerry sold every house
in Copperfield when it was first built that is why he has an interest in
Copperfield. Jerry told us that 5 homes have been sold since January.
There are homes ranging from $120,000 to $160,000. The housing problems
has just started hitting Montgomery over the last few months. Now is the
time to buy because the interest rate is the lowest it has ever been in the
history of our nation. Nationally things are slightly better but slow. Please
call Jerry for your selling needs. His number is listed on our web site.
LEADERSHIP WANTED - During the meeting the president and treasurer
both asked for volunteers to take over their jobs. We have been in place for
about 10 years and it is time for new blood/ideas.
FRONT ENTRANCE - We are taking bids to have a new irrigation system and
curbing put at the front entrance. We will vote on the bids at our next
meeting.
- 311 - This phone number is for anyone to call about someone not cutting
the grass, parking in the yard, basketball goals in the street, working on cars
on the street or in the driveway, junk piled up on the driveway and anything
else that does not have a good appearance. Lately the 311 number will not
work if your phone is through Charter or Knology. If you cannot get through
311 then call 241-2068. Remember, no one will ask you your name. All you
need is the address of the house you have the complaint about. You may
also text this number with the house number and address that needs taken
care of.
- MAILBOXES: It has been brought to our attention by your letter carrier that
there are several mail boxes in need of repair or needs replacing. Please
take time to look at your box to see if you need to do something about it. We
have a company that will come out and give you an price on a new mailbox
that some of the neighbors have used. You are not obligated to use this
company but they do a great job. Imperial Mailbox Systems out of Millbrook
1-800-647-0777. You can also ask Harry, listed on our neighbor list, and he
would be more than happy to put a new box up for you. We have spoken
to Winda, your carrier, about the mail carrier running into garbage cans and
mailboxes. She is going to speak with the person that is the sub about this
problem. If this continues, please call the 800 number for the post office and
report it.
- DOGS: If you are allowing your dog to do their business on your neighbors
yard then, expect a neighbor to come out of their house with a bag for you to
pick it up. If you do not want the dog doing their business in your yard then
no one else does. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE A BAG OUT TO ANYONE
THAT ALLOWS THEIR DOG TO POTTY IN YOUR YARD.
- REMINDER: Everyone running your association are volunteers. Please
treat them like you would want to be treated. Also, meet your neighbors
because you never know when you might need them or they might see
someone at your house that should not be there. Ask your neighbors to
watch out for you and you do the same for them.
BASKETBALL GOALS: The city of Montgomery will not allow Basketball
Goals near or on the street. You must move them up your driveway. This is
to protect kids from being hit by cars. If you see one that is near or on the
street please call 311 and report it.
DUES - Please pay your dues for 2011. We do not ask for much money and
are about to have the front entrance improved and need the money for this
project. You can go ahead and pay for 2012 also.
